PRELUDE O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee

arr. Whitworth

Vivian: How can a young person stay on the path of purity?

Frankie: By living according to your Word.

Vivian: I seek you with all my heart;

Frankie do not let me stray from your commands.

Vivian: I have hidden your Word in my heart Frankie: that I might not sin against you.

Vivian: Praise be to you, Lord;

Vivian: Let us worship God.

* HYMN #477 Ye Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim

Holy and Loving God, We come before you and confess this morning that we often think that we deserve your grace.

We look at people around us and we think that we stack up pretty well.

We come up with lists of sins that don’t plague us, ignoring those that do.

We see ourselves as people with clean hands and pure hearts, because we judge ourselves by outward appearances.

We know, though, that when we look within our hearts, we are not always as pure as we want everyone to think.

Forgive us for our pride in believing that we are righteous and can save ourselves.

Forgive us for refusing to look at our sin and for believing that our self-righteousness is real righteousness.

Show us our faults, and our sins.

Forgive us for the things that we have done left undone, that displease you.

In your mercy, Lord, hear our prayer.

Cleanse us of unrighteousness, And let us stand before you In the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

Hear us as we silently confess our sins to you...

* OUR RESPONSE #579 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

And to the Holy Ghost:

As it was in the beginning, Is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen.

If you are a visitor and youtake a moment to fill out the Connection Card found in the bulletin, we will gladly send you information about our church. SCRIPTURE Romans 5:1-11 (NRSV)

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.7 Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. 8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. 9 Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11 But more than that, we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

* DOXOLOGY #592 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Your participation is essential for the first step of our process to be complete. All members and visitors are invited and encouraged to complete a Congregational Survey to provide the Mission Study team with needed information and insight into the composition and vision of our faith community. Click the link on the front page of the FPCAmbler.org website to begin. Paper copies of the Survey are provided at the Help Desk for anyone interested in completing a paper survey. Return completed paper copies to the basket at the Help Desk or the church office.

The deadline for completed surveys is May 10th. Thank you for sharing in the Mission Study portion of the search for our next Associate Pastor!

“HORIZON BIBLE STUDY” is a publication of the Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. This year the study will be “Reconciling Paul” based on 2nd Corinthians, written by Elizabeth Hinson-Hasty. Our final meeting for this year will be on Thursday, May 14th from Noon -2:00 PM in the library.

P.R.I.M.E. TIME. Join us on Tuesday, May 5th for lunch at 11:30 AM. Immediately following lunch there will be a presentation by David Rowland, President of the Old York Road Historical Society. He will speak about the Philadelphia area architecture of Horace Trumbauer. Early in his career, Trumbauer designed the Grey Towers castle of Arcadia University. He concentrated on grand homes for several decades, then he switched to public buildings. His most well-known public buildings are the Philadelphia Art Museum, the Free Library and the Ritz Carlton.

If it had pillars, it must be a Trumbauer!

THURSDAY EVENING SMALL GROUP. Join us on Thursdays from 7:10-8:40 PM in the church library. Why does Christian character matter? How is our character tested? Why is it often a struggle, and how do we deal with success or failure? We will look at James 1:2-4 and Romans 5:1-5. Why do we make being together on Thursday evenings a priority? The author of Hebrews puts it well, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25.

CHURCH FAMILY CAMPING. Please join us for a weekend of fun and fellowship! We have reserved the excellent Group Site at Green Lane Park on Memorial Day Weekend (Friday evening May 22 - Sunday May 24). This is tent camping, but with amenities such as hot showers and flush toilets only steps away. Opportunities include fishing, hiking trails, bike riding, badminton, stories and s'mores around the campfire, and more!

Please respond on the Connection Card or direct questions and RSVPs to Debbie or Harry Heckler, Jr. (h2debh@verizon.net / 215-264-7820) by Sunday May 17th.
